A child from out of state sadly lost her life following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 24 the morning of June 27. Police in Paducah, Kentucky responded to the tragic crash that also injured two other children and the deceased child’s mother. Police have not yet filed charges against any driver involved, but as with most motor vehicle accidents, considerable investigation is still underway into the incident.
Details from the unfortunate incident
According to the report, it appears a 38-year-old woman was driving three children, including her 4-year-old daughter, on Interstate 24-West around 9:45 a.m. Apparently, a tractor trailer driven by a 32-year-old man was unable to stop when traffic slowed, causing the rig to crash into the rear of the woman’s vehicle and overturn it. The truck went on to strike seven more vehicles before stopping in the median.
The 4-year-old was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after the crash. Her mother, as well as two other children and six other people in other vehicles, were all injured. Their specific injuries have not been publicly reported. The driver of the truck was uninjured and has yet to face charges. However, accident reconstruction teams were still investigating as of this report.
Moving forward after such a tragedy
Motor vehicle accidents causing fatalities, particularly in children, are always tragic. This is why Kentucky police will carefully review all the evidence at the crash site to determine the scope of the truck driver’s responsibility. If it is proven he was reckless or negligent in the operation of his vehicle, he could face fines or jail time. Separately, the injured parties are entitled to file for personal injury in civil court against the driver and possibly his company. A wrongful death suit for the deceased child can also be filed at this time.
