A family is in mourning after an alleged hit-and-run left an 18-year-old tragically dead. The Madison County, Kentucky, man was killed on Dec. 5, and police believe the accident may have involved another vehicle that left the scene. As with many motor vehicle accidents, this one remains under investigation.
The details of the accident are still unclear. It appears the 18-year-old was driving just a few miles from his home at the intersection of Kentucky 388 and Boonsboro Road. For reasons unknown, the vehicle crashed, and the driver was thrown from the car. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators spent at least 12 hours the following day, attempting to reconstruct the crash. Interviews with witnesses seem to corroborate the grieving family’s belief that this may have been a hit-and-run, as witnesses have reported seeing an 18-wheeler leaving the area. However, this has yet to be confirmed by authorities.
Motor vehicle accidents causing fatalities are always tragic, but the outcome of this case will depend strongly on the findings of Kentucky authorities, including police as well as coroners who are currently conducting an autopsy of the deceased. If the accident turns out to be a hit-and-run, police will no doubt seek out the driver of the 18-wheeler, and criminal charges may be filed. Separately, the family may choose to file a wrongful death suit against the driver and possibly even the company that owns the truck.
